The Woman From Bookclub A deliciously twisted, darkly comic revenge thriller about friends, husbands and book clubs.

After reading „The Trad Wife“ by Carrie Hughes, which I have also recommended in a review, I was curious about other works of this author. The titular book club itself doesn’t play a bit part in this novel. However, it is tied to the plot and Emma often envisions herself as characters of some of her favorite books, beloved classics like Jane Eyre and others, as a coping strategy. This was a nice idea, I think. There is a massive intrigue happening in this story, but it is even deeper than what can be seen at first and there is also an interesting play with an unreliable narrator. The book is very heteronormative, and often I found myself asking, „are the straight folks alright?“ Because for instance, here are two female characters who fight each other as rivals – as patriarchy so often teaches women to view each other as rivals with regards to men. On the other hand, I was happy to see that there are several other female characters who support each other. And I cannot tell your more about the plot because of spoilers. The writing style is engaging and easy to read in my eyes. One thing I didn’t like about the book is that in several places, the pacing is very slow without the story progressing. And to me, the ending seemed quite unrealistic and overdone, even in these imaginery circumstances. However, overall I enjoyed the read.
