The Princess Diaries: The Graphic Novel

Mia Thermopolis! That name alone is one you might not be able to remember the first time you hear it. If it were to turn out that she’s actually Amelia Migononette Thermopolis Renaldi, Princess of Genovia, and someone at school were to find that out, Mia’s life would be over. Keeping a secret like that from her best friend Lilly – a women’s rights and environmental activist – is an absolute must!!! So she just has to put up with her princess lessons with Grandmère and Dad’s questions about Mum’s new boyfriend without anyone finding out. (Shall we mention that she’s got a bit of a crush on Josh, the coolest boy in school, and possibly on Lilly’s brother too? Better not!) Until recently, I didn’t realise the films were based on books. I think it’s brilliant to now have a graphic novel to go with them, one that’s so beautifully designed. The characters are illustrated absolutely brilliantly and have lots of traits that I find incredibly interesting, as they never appeared in the films.
