'A stunning collection of Richard Lewington's extraordinary illustrations which will delight nature lovers' - Martha Kearney
Richard Lewington has spent his life portraying the natural world, combining the art of entomological illustration with scientific accuracy to create images that express the full beauty and intricacies of the objects that he studies.
Here, for the first time, his superbly detailed paintings of butterflies, moths and their caterpillars have been brought together into a single volume, providing a spectacular way to browse the remarkable diversity of Lepidoptera that Britain and Ireland have to offer.
Inside you'll discover:
- An intimate introduction by the artist, sharing the story of his career and the techniques behind his illustrations.
- More than 4,000 detailed colour paintings, covering 2,000 species - some created especially for this book.
- Concise family overviews, describing general appearance and habits.
- Accurate, up-to-date distribution maps, accompanied by brief summaries of the status of each species.
The result is a rich and immersive showcase of butterflies, moths and their caterpillars - perfect for enthusiasts and admirers alike.
