I am mesmerised by how Kristin Hannah has put this story together. The difficulties the characters in this book have to face resonate with everyone. Not only those who serve in the army, but it could also happen to everyone. This is one of the reasons why I enjoy her books so much. The stories always feel like they were taken out of real context. You forget that they are just fiction. And the relevant topics that are discussed just run along with the main plot. Topics that no one likes to talk about. As a reader, you barely notice them, but the impact they create is felt even more. At first, I didn’t like the main male character; his selfish manners were abhorrent. I had to give this character more time to develop, and in the end, I was glad about the positive turn he took. It took a while, though. The conclusive end is, on the whole, positive.
