The SABR Baseball Style Guide is an indispensable handbook for anyone writing about baseball, publishing about the sport in any medium, or interested in the language and expressions of the "national pastime." It covers numerous issues about usage, the history of baseball terms and nomenclature, and the changing nature of baseball terminology, combined with an alphabetical reference for more than a thousand commonly misused or misspelled terms.
The SABR Baseball Style Guide goes beyond grammar and usage to the details behind both. The topics range from the influence of sportswriters, newspapers, and the internet to the ever-evolving world of statistics, baseball insider slang, and how to avoid historical inaccuracies and myths about the game. This guide grew out of SABR's in-house style guide for writers and researchers, a compilation that has become a standard reference used by numerous baseball organizations and websites and serves much like an umpire when questions arise.
