The Lady of the Shroud is a gothic horror novel written by Bram Stoker, the author of the iconic Dracula. The story is set in the early 20th century and follows Rupert Saint Leger, a young Englishman who inherits the title and estates of his uncle, the late Duke of Dorset. Rupert travels to the remote island of Vissarion in the Adriatic Sea to take possession of his inheritance, but he soon finds himself embroiled in a sinister plot involving the mysterious Lady of the Shroud. The Lady of the Shroud is a beautiful and enigmatic woman who wears a shroud over her face and is said to have supernatural powers. She lives in a castle on the island and is revered by the local people, who believe she can control the weather and bring good luck to those who please her. However, Rupert soon discovers that there is more to the Lady than meets the eye, and that she may be involved in a plot to overthrow the government of Vissarion. As Rupert delves deeper into the mystery of the Lady of the Shroud, he uncovers a web of intrigue and danger that threatens his own life and the lives of those around him. He must navigate treacherous political alliances, supernatural forces, and his own growing feelings for the Lady to uncover the truth and save himself and the people of Vissarion from a terrible fate. The Lady of the Shroud is a gripping tale of suspense and romance, filled with Stoker's trademark gothic atmosphere and vivid characters. It is a must-read for fans of classic horror and mystery novels.I have waited till now--well into midday--before beginning to set down the details of the strange episode of last night. I have spoken with persons whom I know to be of normal type. I have breakfasted, as usual heartily, and have every reason to consider myself in perfect health and sanity.
