The Revolt of the Angels is a novel written by Anatole France. The book tells the story of Arcade, a guardian angel who becomes disillusioned with his role in the universe and decides to join Satan in his rebellion against God. Arcade's journey takes him through various realms of heaven and earth, as he meets other fallen angels and tries to find his place in the cosmos. Along the way, he grapples with questions of free will, morality, and the nature of good and evil. The novel is a philosophical exploration of these themes, as well as a critique of organized religion and the institutions that uphold it. It is considered one of France's most important works, and has been praised for its lyrical prose and imaginative storytelling.""God, conquered, will become Satan; Satan, conquering, will become God. May the fates spare me this terrible lot; I love the Hell which formed my genius. I love the Earth where I have done some good, if it be possible to do any good in this fearful world where beings live but by rapine. Now, thanks to us, the god of old is dispossessed of his terrestrial empire, and every thinking being on this globe disdains him or knows him not. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
