Zadig Or The Book Of Fate: An Oriental History is a novel written by the French Enlightenment philosopher and writer, Voltaire, in 1780. The book tells the story of Zadig, a young Babylonian philosopher who is blessed with the gift of foresight and the ability to interpret dreams. Zadig's journey takes him through a series of trials and tribulations, as he navigates the complex and often treacherous world of ancient Babylon. The novel is set in a fantastical version of the ancient Middle East, where magic and prophecy are commonplace, and the gods play an active role in the lives of mortals. Throughout the book, Zadig encounters a cast of colorful characters, including a scheming queen, a wise hermit, and a beautiful slave girl. Each encounter tests Zadig's courage, wisdom, and moral character, as he strives to uncover the mysteries of the universe and the workings of fate.At its core, Zadig Or The Book Of Fate is a meditation on the nature of human existence and the role of fate in shaping our lives. Voltaire uses the character of Zadig to explore themes of morality, justice, and the search for truth in a world that is often chaotic and unpredictable. The novel is also notable for its wit and satire, as Voltaire skewers the hypocrisy and absurdity of the society in which he lived.Overall, Zadig Or The Book Of Fate is a timeless classic of French literature, and a must-read for anyone interested in philosophy, history, or the art of storytelling. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
