Circe

Circe ist für mich ein echtes Highlight – nicht nur, weil ich griechische Mythologie liebe, sondern weil Madeline Miller es schafft, einer oft übersehenen Figur eine kraftvolle Stimme zu geben. Die Geschichte der Zauberin Circe wird hier nicht als Randnotiz großer Männer erzählt, sondern als epische Reise einer Frau, die sich ihren Platz in einer patriarchalen Götterwelt selbst erkämpft. Millers Sprache ist poetisch, aber nie überladen, und ihre Interpretation der alten Mythen wirkt gleichzeitig zeitlos und hochaktuell. Die feministischen Töne sind dabei weder aufdringlich noch künstlich – sie ergeben sich ganz natürlich aus Circes Entwicklung, ihrer Einsamkeit, Stärke, Verletzlichkeit und der Suche nach Selbstbestimmung. Besonders beeindruckt hat mich, wie Circe immer wieder neu wählen muss – zwischen Anpassung und Widerstand, zwischen Macht und Menschlichkeit. In einer Welt, die alles andere als gerecht ist, erzählt Circe von Selbstermächtigung, ohne dabei ihre Zartheit zu verlieren. Ein kluges, berührendes Buch, das alten Stoff mit neuer Kraft auflädt. Für Fans der Mythologie und alle, die starke weibliche Perspektiven lieben – ein Muss.

In Circe, Madeleine Miller tells a well-known myth from the point of view of a woman who has often been misunderstood. Circe is no longer just a strange witch in a man's story – here, she becomes the main character. Miller shows her as strong, smart, sometimes lonely, and very human. What makes the story especially exciting is how Circe changes over time. At first, she is unsure of herself. Later, she becomes brave and independent. Her relationships with Odysseus, her son Telegonus, and even the sea monster Scylla feel real and emotional. The author gives new meaning to many parts of the old myth, especially when it comes to Circe as a woman, mother, and outsider. At the end of the book, there are thoughtful questions that invite readers to reflect more deeply. They touch on topics like identity, power, love, and the role of women in ancient stories. Great for book clubs or personal reflection.

wunderschönes Buch :) Kann ich jedem empfehlen. Könnte ich noch weitere 100 mal lesen, einfach Lieblingsbuch. Madeline Millers Schreibstil ist einfach schön und poetisch, was nicht jeder so sieht.

One of my forever favourites, absolutely stunning! I read this before TSOA and although I liked both, I like Circe more because I identify more with Circe's person, and the plot is less about her love life and more about her power as a witch!
