"Oseman's debut could put her among the great young adult fiction authors." - Voice of Youth Advocates (VOYA)

"Tori's voice makes this story into a poignant yet blackly funny and even lively emotional journey. A deeply absorbing read." - Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books

"Oseman proves herself a clever, witty writer." - Publishers Weekly

"An intense, highly engaging, well-plotted story of relationships, explorations into gay and bisexual identities, family trauma, a straight-jacket education system, and, mostly, kids yearning to be their truest selves despite it all." - Booklist (starred review)

"Honest and authentic... with appeal to fans of John Green." - Bookseller (London)

"In [Oseman's] punky, depressive, epigrammatic, mordant heroine Tori Spring we have a Holden Caulfield for the internet age." - The Times (London)

"Intrigue, suspense, and a fairly spectacular climax will appeal to teens asking the big questions." - ALA Booklist

"Keenly intelligent. A smart, timely outing." - Kirkus Reviews

"Oseman is a master at combining sardonic wit with angst to create believable characters and a compelling contemporary story that will resonate with teens. VERDICT: A top pick for any YA collection." - School Library Journal

"Oseman vividly illustrates that the world and its technologies offer opportunities for connection and fulfillment that go far beyond traditional definitions of success." - Publishers Weekly (starred review)

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

Somehow I felt understood and seen

At first, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from this story. I took an instant liking to Frances. She tries to fit in with the others, yet she’s so genuine when she’s on her own and with the people closest to her. At the same time, this behaviour felt incredibly authentic and relatable. I thought Aled was really sweet. He’s kind, has such a big heart, and ultimately feels as though he’s alone in the world. And that’s exactly the kind of feeling that everyone can relate to in some way. I really loved the sweet awkwardness between Frances and Aled. I enjoyed witnessing their friendship unfold. I found it interesting that Radio Silence’s identity was revealed to the reader so quickly. However, it soon became clear that this wasn’t actually the real point of the story, as I’d believed at the start. I was a bit confused at times, though the ending did shed some light on things. At a certain point, it was obvious to me who February Friday was, but I’d never have thought the ending would go in that direction. The surprise factor was definitely there! I found Aled’s mother particularly distressing. Every time she was mentioned, the situation only got worse, and it truly breaks my heart to know that this is everyday life for some people. I’m giving this book 5 out of 5 stars. I felt incredibly close to Frances and Aled, as the writing style was simply captivating. This story portrayed so many everyday struggles in such a comforting way that, no matter what you were going through, you somehow felt understood and seen. Thank you so much, Alice, for this beautiful, heart-wrenching story.

    Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

Traurig poetisches Jugendbuch, das doch so viel Liebe vermittelt

„He reached out and took my hand and we ran like that through the countryside in the rain, and then he laughed, and it reminded me of a child‘s laugh, and I wished people could always laugh and run like that.“ Alice Oseman ist schon seit Jahren eine meiner liebsten Autorinnen und nachdem ich endlich „Radio Silence“ gelesen habe, bin ich umso begeisterter.

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

    What a beautiful story!

Radio Silence shows how strong the pressure to perform and the expectations of parents and society can be for young people. I could relate well to Frances, and it was great that it isn’t about finding the big love. It’s about friendship and finding yourself. It’s a book about the pressure to succeed and about how it’s okay to change plans or sometimes to be completely at a loss. I flew through the pages! The author cleverly uses chats and podcast recordings, which fit the story perfectly. I wish this book had been available in my youth. I just hope many people read this book and take something from it.

Radio Silence is relatable, deep, emotional and somehow unreal. I loved the characters especially the contrast of the more serious and determined side and the funny quirky one of Frances. As always its not an all-is-bright-and-fuzzy book and thats amazing <3
