4.5 stars My Sister, the Serial Killer is a story about two sisters. Ayoola is a beautiful young woman who has come into the habit of killing her boyfriends. Korede, the protagonist and older sister, works as a nurse in a hospital. She feels responsible for her younger sister and literally helps clean up her mess when Ayoola calls her. The book deals with the dysfunction of a relationship between two sisters. One sister, who feels responsible for every action of her little sister. Protects her while living in her shadow. The other, who turns heads where ever she goes but has a violent streak. It was interesting yet very frustrating to see how they treated each other in different situations. But also how both acted in general. Although they both grew up in the same house and under the same circumstances, they couldn't be any more different. Braithwaite debut is not a thriller. It is not a suspenseful story, but nevertheless very compelling. The chapters are short and striking and I flew through the pages. A book you can read easily in one sitting. I loved the structure of the book, the storytelling and the sarcastic aspects. The author showed a few insight of the past of the sisters. I think she could have issued the motivation and the psychological side a bit more. It was one aspect I would've loved to dig deeper in. All in all I can recommend this dark humored story

Two sisters ,as different as they could be, sharing a dark secret. A really well written book, which is fun for it's playing with language and the readers emotions.

I bought this book, because I was really drawn to it because of the title and even the cover. I loved the way the book was written and how the chapters were labelled. Ayoola is the definition of Maneater. At the beginning of the book, I grew angry at Ayoola because of her entitlement and naivety and even at the end of the book I still was angry at her. She isn't dumb, but she likes to act like it. I don't understand how Korede kept helping her even after she threw her multiple times under the bus. I would have beaten her up if she was my sister. Korede really needs to go to therapy to grow a backbone. For God's sake girl, put yourself first for once. She really needed to stop looking at her little sister as the perfect little doll that she couldn't compare to. You are a head nurse, you should be proud of yourself. But I get it, you can't feel proud of yourself if you are conditioned to feel like that it was an obligation to reach this level/thing in your life, I had the same thing with my family. Ayoola talking bad about Korede to Tade, because she knew her sister liked him, would've made me bring out my own knife. It really shows that Ayoola doesn't care about anyone but herself and wants all the attention on her, even after her sister basically risked herself and her career for her. This shows that she doesn't really care about her sister and doesn't really love her as much as her sister loves her. She basically doesn't care. Even after she almost faced the same fate as her exes, she still didn't care and was basically showing her injuries on and suffering on social media to gain more attention. The mother enables Ayoola's behaviour because she can't do anything wrong as she is beautiful and so that means she is beautiful. The ending, that many people hated, I actually liked. It shows that no matter what tragedy happens to an arrogant and selfish person, the cycle will continue as long as the people around them allow and enable it, aka Korede. I think that Korede enables her sister, because she wants her sister to live the life that she wants to live, but isn't capable of living and so she wants at least one of them to be happy and so she enables her and helps her always so that she always stays happy. At least, this is how I am with my younger sister. I have a theory that either Muhtar faced the same fate as Ayoolas' exes or his children blocked Koredes' number from his phone without him knowing. Maybe, he didn't take her calls, because he was scared of her and only acted nice in the hospital so that he doesn't face the same as Femi. All in all, I really liked this book and I totally recommend it.
