The Cipher

It's not the authors fault when their book isn't getting correctly proofread by their editor, but /oof/. At the beginning I thought it's a choice of style, but, well, it definitely isn't. Especially as it doesn't contribute to the story at all. It's dense, vulgar and boring. I do not mind unlikeable main characters, especially in a premise like this. However, there wasn't a gripping story that hooked me enough to forgive them for being terrible and unpleasant people. I went through hundred tedious pages and in the end I decided to DNF for the first time ever. I feel terrible over it, but I felt more terrible getting through another page. In all honesty, if the author would have edited it shorter, made it more fast-paced and less focused on sexual themes (I don't know how many times I had to read the main character had a hard on totally out of nowhere??) I do believe I'd have enjoyed it. The writing itself truly wasn't the problem after all, it was actually quite good too. All else just made it feel like work which I didn't feel encouraged enough to go through.
