What a beautifully woven story around sisterhood, witchcraft and women's rights. It took me a few chapters to get into the story of Bella, Agnes and Juniper, the three sisters that find each other after years of absence and betrayal. But once their story unfolds, once they do their magic to face the imbalance of power in the year of 1893, I could not resist their charm anymore (pun intended). What I love is that each character is described with their flaws and good sides, their very layered personalities and that the world building ist introduced in a way that we, the readers, do not get lost. Would I have shortened the story a bit? Yes, but that's about the only critique that I have. Well deserved 4,5/5 stars.

They are thrown into the suffrage movement and are working together to protect witchcraft and witches from the city's new mayor Gideon Hill, who is set on destroying witches forever. The characters feel rich and real, with real life struggles. The sisters are forces to be reckoned with, this is a feminist book through and through. Even though it is set in the 19th century, I could fully relate with their struggles: living in a world full of men who want to silence women and make them powerless. Their fight to return witchcraft is a fight for women's rights and women's freedom.
