Hits just as much as the first book
What can I say, I cried, a lot. Though the writing style (or rather the translation) felt clanky at some points, the emotional impact I felt in the first book was also present in the sequel. I am looking forward to the next installment and hope to learn more about the cafe, its owners and of course the costumers. -

New Tales from the Cafe
This is the second book in the "Before the coffee gets cold" series. While reading, I realized that you don't have to read the books in order if you don't really want to. Although the different stories are often related in one way or another, each book always briefly summarizes what happened in another book. This book also immediately captivated me. It is so beautifully and simply written. The stories of the different people touched me deeply and I couldn't put the book down. I love this series of books so much and would recommend them to anyone. -

Atmosphärisch und wunderschön!
Auch der zweite Band der 'Before the coffee gets cold'-Reihe kann mit dem ersten Band allemal mithalten! Die Kurzgeschichten selbst gehen einem ans Herz, und sowohl die Beweggründe der einzelnen Charaktere, als auch die Reaktionen der besuchten Personen sind zugleich schön und schmerzlich. Das, was einen wohl allerdings am meisten mitnimmt, sind die zusätzlichen Hintergrundinformationen über Nagere und Kazu, wo besonders die Geschichte der letzteren ein bittersüßes Gefühl zurücklässt. Zu empfehlen für alle, die beim Lesen gerne die ein oder andere Träne vergießen, aber trotzdem lächeln wollen! -

Heartbreaking - yet extraordinarily life-affirming!
It was the greatest pleasure to delve back into the magical world of this café and to meet its lovely staff members and peculiar customers once more. Just like in the first book, the overall story is divided into four shorter stories of customers who want to return to the past for various reasons. At the end of the book, these four stories fit together like a perfect puzzle and enrich one another tremendously. It is especially the story of one of the café's staff members (Kazu) which moves the reader almost to tears and explores the human soul, the weight of regret and sorrow to its most life-changing extent. With regard to the ending of the second book, Kawaguchi leaves the reader behind with hope for a third book in the café-series. It would definitely be a literary gain! -
