House of Sky and Breath

A great second book. The story about Bryce and Hunt continues with more scandals and conspiracies. It's a real page turner and I can't wait for the next one.

I just love this series and was completely enthusiastic about the 2nd part. The world, the characters, the plot...it was just flawless. The only regret: you need to read slowly because you have to wait way to long for the next Maas masterpiece. But for now, just enjoy it.

It took me way to long to get into this book, sadly. I cant really tell why it didnt catch me but i had a hard time picking it up. At some point it really took off and i couldnt get enough. As allways the writing was amazing and Sarah J Maas got me hooked beyond imaginiation. Still, the first one was better.

Honestly I am dissappointed. The first novel was so so promising, but, much like in Throne Of Glass, Maas can't seem to stay away from overpowered protagonists and over the top romances that feel too dramatic and build zero tension. In the first book, what was exciting about this was that the protgonist had absolutely zero fighting skills and was "ordinary" - meaning she held no magic powers etc. But as per usual, Maas is obsessed with creating an overpowered main character, that suddenly turns out to hold the power of 1000 ancient deities inside of them. It's boring and it feels flat and lazy. "Oh look, the girl that had nothing special about her is now apparently the one and only heir of a very specific power we just happen to need right now; how convenient!" Plot armor is strong in this one. Additionally, the love stories in Maas' books alwas lack a certain umpf. What feels special and exciting the first few pages, escalates so much so quickly you get sick of the romance very quickly. It's cheesy, overly sexual and too dramatic with no real visible connection behind it. All the people who couple up feel this crazy meant to be connection right away and it's always the same lazy "I've never felt this way before" trope. It's really sad, because story wise I really really like this book. The world is super interesting and the mystery is intensly gripping. I think this book could be amazing - had it been written by someone else. Regardless, I am excited for the third and last part of the series.

Wer dachte, dass nach den turbulenten Ereignissen des letzten Frühjahrs zur Abwechslung mal Ruhe im wunderschönen Lunathion einkehrern würde, der liegt leider falsch. Ein Plottwist jagt hier den nächsten und an der Liebesfront bleibt auch keiner verschont. Nach 800+ Seiten gelegentlicher Spannung und sehr viel Intimität, nimmt die Geschichte allerdings nochmal voll an Fahrt auf und endet mit einer Wendung und einem Cliffhanger, die sich gewaschen haben! Für meine Verhältnisse waren es ein wenig zu viele detaillierte Beschreibungen dessen, wie diverse Charaktere ihre Beziehungen vollends auskosten, sodass man glatt vergessen konnte, dass man einen Fantasy-Roman vor sich hat. Das Ende hat allerdings einiges wieder herumgerissen und lässt mich mehr als gespannt auf den nächsten Band zurück!
