A heartfelt young adult rom com set in an ice cream truck called “Love at First Bite”, with two queer protagonists and a lot of drama. I adored everything about this book. From the complicated history and feelings Fallon and Chloe have for each other to all the drama and mayhem they encounter on the road (because something about stories set on the road always works for me). Full of funky ice cream names (I'm *dying* to try their “Beauty and the Feast” ice cream flavour, so if someone feels compelled to make that dream come true, I won't stop you) this is the PERFECT book to devour this summer! It had passages that had me giggling like a 12-year-old again but also delt with deeper topics like broken trust and healing again, so I would recommend this to young readers and “older” romance lovers alike. The queer, comforting YA book I wish I could've read when I was younger. But I'm so grateful this lovely, sweet and realistic queer love story between two young girls exists now <3

Melt With You is a queer YA romance that combines the fun of a summer road trip with the emotional weight of first love and second chances. The story follows Fallon and Chloe, ex–best friends who stopped speaking after an ill-timed hookup the summer before. When their moms—who run a gourmet ice cream truck together—send them on a cross-country road trip to promote the business, the two are forced to confront unresolved feelings, past mistakes, and the lingering spark between them. Fallon’s narration is witty, self-deprecating, and deeply relatable, though her tendency to overthink sometimes slows the story down. The rivals-to-lovers tension between Fallon and Chloe is engaging, with plenty of banter, longing, and moments of vulnerability. But I found Jeniffer Dougan relied a bit too much on misscommunication. Fun, heartfelt, and queer-positive, though weighed down at times by overused miscommunication.
