The Cabin in the Woods

The Cabin in the Woods by Sarah Alderson is an engaging read with a suspenseful atmosphere and an intriguing setup. The isolated setting adds a nice layer of tension, and there are some genuinely gripping moments that kept me turning the pages. The pacing was decent, and the writing style flows well, which made it easy to get through the book fairly quickly. However, what didn’t work for me was the strong emphasis on romantic relationships throughout the story. I picked this book up expecting a tight, plot-driven crime thriller, but found that a large portion of the narrative revolved around the emotional dynamics between characters. While some readers might enjoy the blend of romance and mystery, I personally prefer thrillers that stay more focused on the crime, the investigation, and the suspense. That imbalance made it harder for me to fully immerse myself in the tension of the plot. The romance elements sometimes undercut the urgency or pulled attention away from the core mystery, which was a bit frustrating. Overall, it’s a decent read with some good moments, but not quite what I was looking for in a thriller. If you're someone who enjoys a mix of romance and suspense, this might hit the mark better for you.
