It´s grim, it´s innovative and it´s incredibly entertaining!
With "The City of last Chances" Tchaikovsky has written one of the most creative & well written fantasy books of the recent years. In an occupied city we follow so many viewpoint characters & perspectives that the city itself becomes the protagonist of the story. Chance encounters, bad decisions & ploys to benefit of each of the factions influence every aspect of life in Illmar and lead to absurd, sometimes funny and shocking but undoubtedly believable plots. The tension between the cities groups and individuals ist noticable on every page of this book, the descriptions detailed and lush, sometimes complicated but beautiul nonetheless and the charcter work Tchaikovsky delivers is some of the best out there. A masterpiece!
