Wading through memories of her youth, Ro realizes she can either lose herself in the undertow of reminiscence, or finally come to terms with her childhood trauma, recommit to those around her, and find her place in an ever-changing world.

Unexpected highlight of the year!
This book took me completely by suprise! I didn't think I was going to like it that much! It's a book for people being a little lost in life - we read about Ro, who just got dumped by her boyfriend and now her beloved octopus, Dolores, from the aquarium she works in, is getting sold. We follow her through her - pretty uneventful - everyday life, memories of her childhood, of her father who went missing when she was a child. About her experience of being a child of an immigrant family and generational trauma. To be honest - nothing really happens in this book! It's just a calm stream of thoughts and emotions with the beautiful, peaceful, blue-lighted atmosphere of an aquarium. The writing style was so good, I couldn't believe it was the author's debut novel! I really, really liked this book. Underrated for sure, I hope more people will give it a chance!
