My Darling Dreadful Thing

What a story! This book really makes you question whats real and what could be. Van Veen paints her ghost almost human, so much so that you start to see them as such. I also loved the (still) alive characters, although they are not pleasent to read about. The sprinkeld in interviews of Roos and ther doctor were also a great addition to the story. There's even bits of romance included. So excited for Johanna van Veen to write her next novel I cant wait!

Eine unglaublich innovative, vielschichtige Geistergeschiche, welche die Frage aufwürft: Was ist überhaupt noch real? An manchen Stellen verflucht man die Charaktere für ihre Entscheidungen und kann sie doch verstehen und an anderen sind sie eben deswegen Sympathisch weil ihr Handeln nicht nachvollziehbar ist. Die beschriebene düstere Ästhetik zieht einen dabei nur noch tiefer in seinen Bann. Ein Muss für alle Fans von Gothic-Horror-Lovestories! / An incredible blend of tragedy, romance, and horror. Few horror novels utilize such morbid, and especially already deceased, characters in such an elegant way as those portrayed in this book. At times, you curse the characters for their decisions yet still understand them, while at others, you find yourself sympathizing precisely because their actions are incomprehensible. The dark aesthetic only draws you deeper into the story. A must-read for all fans of Gothic horror love stories!
