    Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

If you go down in the woods today, you're sure of a big surprise...

I think The Midnight Feast might actually be the best book I've read by Lucy Foley. The setting is incredibly atmospheric. It's blazing hot, the solstice is approaching and the newly opened hotel on the grounds of the old manor house is completely booked out. What could be more fitting for a Lucy Foley novel than a remote location and a group/horde of incredibly disgustingly rich people? There are many POVs and almost everyone we meet has something to hide. I enjoyed reading it extremely, especially the ending is filled with plot twists, not all of which I saw coming.

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

    Close to the boiling point...

This story connects two timelines, one in which the protagonists were enjoying a summer as more or less innocent teenagers that end in tragedy, and one in which we remeet everyone. The book is a bit like a hot day in summer at the end of a hot week: we are inching closer to the boiling point and a thunderstorm is in the air. The novel has some really interesting things going for itself: the gap between the locals and the ultra rich, folklore and superstitions, old secrets, a toxic friendship and a town full of secrets. Over all it was a very engaging and readable book, focussed a lot on the interpersonal relationships and with great imagery and atmosphere. I would have loved to see more of the more mystical side of the story, but the secrets behind that were also part of the story, so I get why we got very little off that till the very end.

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

    Welcome to 'the Manor'!

In a small town in the Englisch country side the Manor, a luxury resort, opens its doors. It is all about positive vibes, purity, and healing, but just outside there is an ancient forest with old secrets and folklore. The community resents the Manor for trying to steal their land and their income and the founder is aghast, she just tries to make this a better place...the troubles and tensions come to a pinnacle on Sunday morning of the opening weekend, when the local police is called: there has been a fire...and a body is discovered. What happened there the last 36 hours? I just love Lucy Foley's narrative structure of switching between the time lines before and after the murder and the POVs of the characters. It's fast paced, keeps on building the tension and the reader guesses until the very end. And the town's old folklore really added to the dark atmosphere.
