An Academy for Liars

If you're looking for a dark and moody book to read now that it's darker and colder outside look no further!! This story was mysterious, I loved the setting at the academy and the characters were just unhinged and morally grey to keep me on my toes. A dark academia type book right to my taste!!!

I was very much looking forward to Alexis Henderson's newest release, especially when I found out that it will be a dark academia story. Sadly, the book didn't land for me. Even though I was truly intrigued by Drayton College and its parallel reality, the whole school and background information fell too flat for me. I would have liked to learn much more about the inner workings of Drayton, its magical tradition and teachings as well as Lennon's innate powers and her rise to it. There were even times when I forgot that Lennon is not a teenager but a fully grown adult because the moral lacking of her behaviour and choices made it really hard for me to identify with her and to take her seriously. I very much enjoyed all of the elements of classical horror, especially during Lennon's and Dante's stay in Amsterdam but once again - more information please. This story had the perfect potential for a heavily atmospheric dark academia tale but somehow could not deliver in its execution.
