Clary, the protagonist, is fifteen when the story begins. She lives with her mother, Jocelyn, in New York. At first, all is well, but then Jocelyn is oddly abducted and Clary starts to discover that not all is at it seemed, and that her mother kept very heavy secrets from her. For example, that she's a Shadowhunter, part of an organisation that has been hunting demons for millenia. Soon, Clary is attacked by those demons too, and Jace Wayland, a young, attractive Shadowhunter, saves her life. He takes her to the institue where the Shadowhunters live and they train together. But again, not all is at it seems, and the world threatens to fray as more and more demons pour into it. Tehe question is: will Clary be able to save everyone, including her mother?
