Galentine's Day

This book moved me more than I thought it would. I was expecting a fun and easy story (maybe even a romcom) about three girlfriends finding themselves and living their best life but oh was I wrong. I mean it's technically about three girls finding themselves but they quickly realise that the life part is far more complicated than they'd thought. Over the years their friendship gets tested again and again and all three of them face very different battles on their own and as a friendgroup. I was very touched by all of them and their strong will to get their friendship to persevere. What a wonderful thing to have best friends you can always count on.

This is a story about growing up, finding yourself, and friendship. While I love reading about these themes, I couldn't fully enjoy the book. The author's writing is easy to follow and quick to read, but sadly, I just couldn’t connect with the characters or their emotions. We get full chapters every February 13th, the time in between are text messages of their group chat. While I love the idea and I get it's the concept of this book, to meet the girls every Galentine's day, it made the story feel way too rushed and the characters too superficial. Also, I was missing more atmosphere and vibes of the 2010s, I totally would've loved that! I really liked the ending, I finally got the emotions I was missing and it was a very good closure to the story. All in all, I loved the idea, but the execution was lacking depth. It was a quick read for in between, but sadly nothing more for me.
