First of all „Notes of your sudden disappearance“ is an emotionally heavy novel, containing a very interesting concept. The protagonist Sally is writing letters to her dead sister. In the letters she is talking about her growing up and her grieve journey. This being said, this story can feel really depressing, especially reading about the coping mechanisms of some of these characters. It is really clear that a lot of these characters are struggling to move on. Alison Espach expresses this through her writing style and the isolating feeling you get while reading. In addition to the raw grieve this books also demonstrates how grieve can connect people and can even lead to obsession, with the dead and living. Overall this book is really intense. It’s a beautiful and personal concept, and a very sensitive portrayal of loss. Although it felt rushed in the end and not fully lived up to it‘s potential, Alison Espach tried to maintain the premise and it’s worth a read.
