Lost Lambs

WOW, WOW, WOW! What a rollercoaster of a novel. I read the first page, was hooked, and knew I was in for a crazy but brilliant ride. Meet the Flynns, a family of five in a nowhere town on the West Coast of the US. The parents are opening their marriage and fail miserably at it. The oldest, Abigail, is in a relationship with a guy who gets called “War Crime Wes.” The cliché of a middle child is Louise, who is starting to radicalize herself through an internet friend, and the youngest is Harper, a highly intelligent girl who believes there is a big conspiracy going on in their small town. I actually can’t put into words how much I adored this novel. It’s an absolute satirical exaggeration of the crazy times we live in nowadays, and I think it perfectly captured and reflected on our current world climate. Not once during this novel was I bored, nor could I find any plot holes, even though we have a lot of POVs. Now to the critique I see online. There are some people who say this novel is Islamophobic, and if that were so, well, then it would be a whole lot more …-phobic and discriminating, but it isn’t. All the absolute clichés in the novel are the premise of it and a means to get to the moral of the story. I mean, the pastor is somehow weird with the children: absolute cliché. And the billionaire? Well, you have to find out for yourself, but absolutely a cliché. This novel shows the normalcy in the absolute absurdity and that the ultimate goal and finish line is love, as unconventional as it may seem and in all the different forms and shapes that are out there. Everyone needs to read this absolute masterpiece and brilliant debut. Highly, highly recommend!!!!
