That wasn't it.

Bewertet: eBook (ePUB 3)

Philip Pullman's original 'His dark materials' trilogy is my favourite book series, so naturally I was beyond excited to return to the world of Lyra and Pan. However - while I really enjoyed the first volume of the 'Book of Dust' series, part two and three didn't click for me. On the one hand, there were so many interesting ideas, concepts, characters and plot points which I really liked and would have loved to explore more deeply - but some of them were just not resolved in a satisfying manner (maybe this would have taken another book or two). On the other hand, I really struggled with various choices that, for me, felt like some of the big story points of the OG trilogy were rendered meaningless. And so, reading 'The Rose Field' was a challenge that took me several months to finish because I was stuck in-between my love for the world and the characters, and the story that didn't quite click in my opinion. After longer breaks, I now finished the last 200 pages in a couple of days, and I'm glad to have finished it!, but I don't feel the satisfaction I had hoped for. Despite (or because of) my love for 'His dark materials', I sadly can't recommend book 2&3 of the 'Book of Dust' trilogy - but I'm very much ready now to return to 'The Golden Compass' and revisit young Lyra.
