White Nights An intimate story inspired by Dostoyevsky

Initially this story seems small and not very extensive. A lonely man who lives in Saint Petersburg and befriends houses… till one night he meets Nastenka and gains something like hope for a few nights. This book has so much depth, more than any 500 page book could ever have! The incredible mix of loneliness and hopefulness completely takes me in. We get the story from the man´s perspective and though he knows, that his luck won’t last long, he loves so intensely. One gets the feeling of living inside his head, every sentence, every thought is too real and perfect. His style of writing is beautiful and painful at once. For me this book isn’t just a classic but a story about longing, betrayal, bad timing and people that´ll meet after it’s too late. It completely changed my way of looking at love and definitely destroyed me mentally – love it!

Quite short, quite uneventful BUT beautifully written! If Dostoyevsky knew how to do anything then it definitly is how to write beautifully and captivatingly. I took this book with me everywhere I went and actually read it twice in a row! So if you have a little time to spare and are ready for a beautiful classic, get yourself a tea (or with the weather getting warmer a cold lemonade) sit outside and listen to nature around you as you read "White Nights".
