Dreamland A Novel

I don't even know how to describe this book, because most of the time I didn't understand what was happening. The protagonist Anya is a wannabe actress and accepts a job offer by the wealthy de Witt family in exchange for being invited to upper-class parties. Her new job is to keep an eye on Julian de Witt, who shares his body and his mind with a monster. That was the part I did not understand. Is there an actual monster or does he just have multiple personalities? While reading I assumed it was an actual monster, but how it got there was never explained. They talked a lot about some kind of ritual involving blood, but again, there was no further explanation. The romance, if you can call it that, ventured into dark romance territory and Anya did develop an "I can fix him" complex, both of which I did not enjoy. The ending was super confusing, just like the rest of the plot. I did not understand what the characters were doing and why. I do like books with a gothic and mysterious vibe, but if it is so mysterious that I don't understand anything, then I can't recommend it.
