I loved deep cuts so much. percy felt so real to me, she´s passionate, vulnerable and messy in the best way. Her love for music hit me hard, especially as someone who connects deeply to songs. The way the story captured obsession, friendship and unspoken feelings through music was just beautiful. definitely a highlight for me!

A book riddled with music and references to songs and artists, following an aspiring blogger/producer/songwriter and her relationship with the person she first wrote a song with. Personally, I'm not that far into the music world but I did recognize some names here and there. Set in the 90s and early 2000s, in combination with the music from those eras, it can have a little nostaligic ring to it. Divided into three parts defined by where the main character, Percy Marks, lived, every chapter without fail is titeled after a song important to that part of the story. Sometimes it's one they listened to in the chapter, one Percy wrote about or even one that was written in the story. It reminds me of a more mature coming of age story, one set in college but not the first few years like most others in the genre. This book reads almost like a journal, a sort of personal blog Percy wrote herself as she moved on from college to grad school to work life. Just like real life, some events and scenes feel a little anti-climatic, people only mentioned as sidelines to the story can feel a little flat, just like those people you only meet once in your live through a friend's friend of a friend. It's a sweet read, definetely one for the music nerds and critics, or the occasional enjoyer of old tunes. but unlike it's title may suggest, this won't be an emotional deep cut, not a book that'll have you hooked. Though it could be seen as a deep cut of Percy's life. It's a pleasant passing of time, a book you can easily put down and pick back up again without having to reacquaint yourself with the characters inside.
