The Bewitching

This novel really gave me the creeps - and this is meant in a highly positive way. Silvia Moreno-Garcia is amazing in evoking a certain eerie atmosphere in which you look over your shoulder or out of the window to check if anyone is stalking and watching you. There are not many authors with this kind of talent and I love her for it. This story consists of three separate timelines, which are intricately connected and inform each other to the fullest. The 1908 timeline is the most important one in setting the ground work for 1934 and 1998 (the latter of which I loved the most). It was almost unbearable to switch between the timelines as my nerves were strung to their maximum. Whenever I had to switch, I'd rather read more of the time I was just absorbed in. This, however, was the reason for rushing through the plot at high speed and being unable to put the book aside. Definitely a recommendation if you are looking for a fast-paced page turner.
