    Buch (Taschenbuch)

“In that room that smelt of death, she felt like the last living thing. This beautiful, messy thing that I couldn’t kill.”

The Blood We Crave completely swept me off my feet emotionally and still won’t let me go even after I’ve finished reading it. Lyra and Thatcher, in particular, have remained absolutely unforgettable to me as a couple. Ever since I read about them, I haven’t been able to get them out of my head, because their dynamic is so intense and unusual that it’s hard to compare them to other romance couples. Lyra is a character who particularly fascinated me. She seems like two people in one: on the one hand, you know her from the first two books in the series; on the other hand, she reveals a whole new, significantly darker side in her own story. She’s “dark” and, at times, very headstrong and unusual, but at the same time incredibly empathetic and loving. I’ve rarely seen this exact mix in the genre before. Dark romance characters often come across as either cold or destructive, but Lyra, on the other hand, combines both in a very special way. While reading, I constantly had the feeling she could have come straight out of a Tim Burton movie. That’s why the whole atmosphere of the book felt to me like a spooky, Halloween-esque, almost “Dark Academia” vibe. ❤︎ Thatcher is the complete opposite, and that’s exactly what makes him so fascinating. At first, he comes across as a classic, emotionless psychopath—someone I honestly couldn’t relate to at all. But over time, his character slowly evolves without completely losing his fundamental nature. And that’s exactly what makes him seem so realistic. I was particularly impressed by how powerfully his inner conflicts are portrayed: his feelings for Lyra, which he refuses to admit to himself, and how this very struggle literally drives him mad. This development was written with such intensity. .ೀ Overall, The Blood We Crave is, for me, the strongest volume in the series and, at the same time, my absolute highlight from last year.
