Meine letzte Rezension Lights Out von Navessa Allen
This was surprisingly good. After the first few chapters, I wasn´t entirely convinced that this book would be for me. However, a few chapters later, I found myself completely intrigued. Aly and Josh are both very likeable characters, with unique 'desires' that complement each other suprisingly well. I really enjoyed the dual POV as it provided great insight into both characters' minds and made the characters' actions and motivations much easier to understand. As someone who isn't a fan of pitch-black dark romance, I was pleasantly surprised to find that this story stayed firmly in the darker shades of grey - still morally questionable, yet comfortably within my personal morality spectrum. Josh, in particular, turned out to be much sweeter than expected, and both protagonists shared a great sense of humour, which gave the story much of its charm. A cat-and-mouse game with a hell of a lot of spice, funny characters, and just the right amount of darkness!

The Serpent & the Wings of Night

'The Serpent and the Wings of Night' is one of my favourite books of all time. Carissa Broadbent crafts an incredibly thrilling story featuring a badass female protagonist who has fought hard to get to where she is and knows how to stand her ground. The dark and ominous atmosphere and intense action kept me constantly torn between fearing for her and urging her forward, while the slow-burn romance was done so well, it had me burning right alongside the characters. The characters, their humour, and their witty banter give the novel an extra spark. All in all, phenomenal writing paired with an incredibly captivating story.

    Mistborn 1

So far, I haven´t come across another book quite like 'Mistborn'. Sanderson has created such a unique magical system - complex and full of finesse - with great characters that fit the world he created perfectly. Although this was my first book by Brandon Sanderson, I already start to understand why he is often described as a fantasy god. 'Mistborn' is an incredibly good novel, and even though it took me quite some time to get through its many pages, the story never once felt dragged out. Instead, Sanderson gradually introduces his readers to this unfamiliar world and its people with enough detail to feel immersed while still leaving room for curiosity and discovery. The novel offers exceptional storytelling, lovable characters, intriguing twists and turns, and cleverly executed schemes. As a side note, this book can be read as a standalone. However, once you finish it, chances are high that you´ll immediately want more.

    Drowning

This action thriller had me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire read. I FELT the adrenaline coursing through my veins as the chaos unfolded. The different POVs only added to the intensity of the atmosphere, creating a deep, lingering sense of tension that clung to the pages, and made "Drowning" impossible to put down. What made the novel particularly compelling was Newman´s vivid writing style, which made every scene feel as though it were unfolding right before my eyes. To me, that is a true testament to Newman´s skill as a writer. I can absolutely recommend reading this book (or any other book of hers, for that matter).

    Leave Me Behind

The gorgeous cover art (the black and white one) is what made me pick up this book (no shame in admitting that). The military setting was another major draw, and I did not regret it. The combat, the bloodshed, and the overall atmosphere were brutal, yet undeniably captivating, creating the perfect blend of everything I expect from a dark romance novel. And of course, there are spicy scenes; however, they never felt like the main focus. Instead, they complement the plot rather than overshadow it. If you´re new to the genre, this is an excellent place to start.

    Bride

This was my very first Ali Hazelwood book, and it did not disappoint. In fact: after reading this book, I read many more of her books and soon became a Hazelwood book lover. 'Bride' offers an interesting & new storyline; it combines enemies-to-friends-to-lovers, arranged marriage, forced proximity & found family; the characters are smart and extremely funny; there's tons of witty comments and, in general, a great sense of humour throughout the book; there's (a little) spice, too; and it is beautifully written. I highly recommend to read it. As a side note: the spicy scenes included some weird elements that are best to be ignored. A lot of people gave the book less credit because of that, but it shouldn't diminish the experience, especially because it took up only a very small part of the book, and it actually did fit the storyline.

    Caraval

Reading this book was as easy as the story was intriguing. Within just a few chapters, I was fully absorbed in the wondrous world of Caraval - feeling as amazed and curious, yet sceptical, as the main character did. At times though, the story was a little too fast-paced for my liking, with too many things happening all at once, what made it difficult to keep up with all of the emotions that were evoked throughout the story. Nonetheless, it was a good book, and - even though I'd been warned - it had me fooled. What an ending!
