Mistborn 1 The Final Empire

Mistborn takes a brilliant premise, a world where the dark lord has triumphed, and builds it into a heist story with one of the most inventive hard magic system out there. Allomancy, powered by the consumption and manipulation of metals, allows its users to gain physical and mental “superpowers”, which makes every action scene an absolute blast. Add to that Sanderson’s trademark world building and you have the recipe for a book that is impossible to put down.

So far, I haven´t come across another book quite like 'Mistborn'. Sanderson has created such a unique magical system - complex and full of finesse - with great characters that fit the world he created perfectly. Although this was my first book by Brandon Sanderson, I already start to understand why he is often described as a fantasy god. 'Mistborn' is an incredibly good novel, and even though it took me quite some time to get through its many pages, the story never once felt dragged out. Instead, Sanderson gradually introduces his readers to this unfamiliar world and its people with enough detail to feel immersed while still leaving room for curiosity and discovery. The novel offers exceptional storytelling, lovable characters, intriguing twists and turns, and cleverly executed schemes. As a side note, this book can be read as a standalone. However, once you finish it, chances are high that you´ll immediately want more.

Mistborn is the first book in what Brandon sanderson calls "the Cosmere". Interconnected books that can also be read as standalones or standalone series. If you want the full picture, however, you have to read them all. And Mistborn is the perfect starting point for that. The book is set in an almost dystopic high-fantasy world that feels like it's right during the industrial revolution. Slavery is normalized and here we meet Vin. Vin is a con artist who struggles to survive. Soon after one of her gigs goes wrong, she meets Kelsier, one of the best characters to ever exist, who tells her that she is a "Mistborn" and who wants to overthrow the immortal King. The magic systgem feels extremely unique and fitting with its primary use of metals. The heist is well explained and ther characters, especially Vin and Kelsier feel vibrant and full of life. Overall I tremendously enjoyed my time with this book and am beyond excited to read through the rest.

I hesitated for a long time with Mistborn. When I first bought it, I was still somewhat apprehensive of the sheer vastness of the Cosmere, which at the time, seemed like a literary mountain without a summit to me. My initial hesitance is something I regret deeply, because Mistborn is by far one of the best books I’ve ever read. The world Sanderson weaves here is refreshingly original and has everything you could ever wish for. Complex characters, a strong female protagonist, a unique magic system that absolutely trumps your usual run-of-the-mill magic, intricate world-building, and gripping plot twists, with the signature Sanderlanche adding the cherry on top. In conclusion, don’t make the same mistake I did. Pick up Mistborn and embrace your journey through the Cosmere, I guarantee you it’ll be fun.
