Dieses Buch hat mich zum weinen gebracht
Girl in Pieces ist ein zutiefst bewegender und eindringlicher Roman, der mich von der ersten Seite an gefesselt hat. Kathleen Glasgow schreibt mit einer Ehrlichkeit und Sensibilität, die unter die Haut geht. Die Geschichte von Charlie, die mit Schmerz, Verlust und Selbstverletzung kämpft, ist roh und authentisch, aber zugleich voller Hoffnung und Stärke. Besonders beeindruckt hat mich, wie realistisch und respektvoll die Autorin mit einem so schwierigen Thema umgeht. Die Sprache ist poetisch, ohne den Ernst zu verharmlosen, und die Figuren sind so lebendig gezeichnet, dass man ihre Gefühle fast selbst spürt. Dieses Buch ist kein leichter Lesestoff, aber es ist unglaublich wichtig. Es zeigt, dass Heilung möglich ist, auch wenn der Weg lang und schmerzhaft sein kann. Für mich ist Girl in Pieces ein Buch, das man nicht so schnell vergisst – bewegend, traurig und doch voller Hoffnung. -

Raw, honest and emotional / Roh, ehrlich und emotional mitreißend
Charlie is fresh out of the psych ward after a suicide attempt, and suddenly finds herself in a town where no one knows her name or her past - a chance at a fresh start for herself. But even though her body is healing, her mind is still picking up the pieces. This is a story of pain, of sorrow, and of finding the strength to claw yourself back to the top from rock bottom. I loved the protagonist Charlie, and rooted for her the entire time. She is far from perfect, but her mistakes and the way she learns from them make her human, make her feel real. I also loved the supporting cast of characters (well, most of them), and the writing style was really beautiful too. A difficult book for sure, especially knowing the author was inspired by her own experiences, but a really important read. / Als Charlie nach einem Selbstmordversuch aus der Psychiatrie entlassen wird, findet sich sich plötzlich in einer fremden Stadt wieder, wo niemand ihren Namen oder ihre Geschichte kennt - eine Chance auf einen Neuanfang. Doch während ihr Körper beginnt zu heilen, muss sie mental noch die zerbrochenen Stücke zusammenfügen. Eine Geschichte über Schmerz, Trauma, und darüber, die Kraft zu finden, vom Boden hochzukommen. Ich mochte die Protagonistin Charlie sehr, und habe die ganze Zeit mit ihr mitgefiebert. Sie ist weit enfernt von perfekt, aber ihre Fehler und die Dinge, die sie daraus lernt, machen sie menschlich, lassen sie sich real anfühlen. Ich fand auch die Nebenfiguren toll (zumindest die meisten), und der Schreibstil ist wirklich schön. Auf jeden Fall ein hartes Buch, besonders wenn man weiß, dass die Autorin teilweise aus eigener Erfahrung heraus geschrieben hat, aber so wichtig zu lesen. -

This book tells the story of Charly, who has to find her way back into a normal life after trying to take it. Kathleen Glasgow shows us the most intimate thoughts of Charly, the breakdowns, the urge of her to relapse again. I absolutely loved Charly and just wanted to give her a hug. Personally I'd advise all to read this book carefully, as some moments are really detailed written and could potentionally be triggering. -

...learning to put her pieces back together
Starting this book was a struggle. The topic is quite heavy and the beginning of the book is pretty slow and didn't really catch me at first. But pushing through that and finishing this book was worth it. Charlotte is so relatable. Charlotte's story has a beautiful ending, giving those hope that struggle with the same or similar things as Charlotte does. -
