refreshing

Tabie aus Wien am 09.09.2025

Bewertungsnummer: 2591119

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

i really enjoyed reading the story and found it hard to put it down at times. even tho it felt done before because it’s somewhat of an apocalyptic story, the way the plot was handled still felt super fresh and new to me. its a quick read definitely worth someones time - but not the best book i ever read :)

“They told us to wait and stay...

Bewertung am 22.05.2024

Bewertungsnummer: 2206511

Bewertet: Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

“They told us to wait and stay alive” sounds easy enough. But when you´re trapped on an island with creatures beyond your comprehension, it´s suddenly not. Rory Power has written a thrilling book filled with friendship, monsters and nature that wants to turn against you.

unsettling, horrifying and addicting

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

Set on an isolated island, the story follows Hetty, Byatt, and Reese—students at the Raxter School for Girls—as they endure the aftermath of a mysterious contagious sickness called the Tox. The disease warps the body in disgusting, unpredictable ways: girls sprout scales, silvered spines, or new organs. Nature itself seems infected, turning the island into something both beautiful and terrifying. I loved, loved, loved the vibe of the world that feels claustrophobic and feral, where hunger, disease, and secrecy question the seeming order of things. The girls’ relationships—tender, complicated, and full of longing—serve as an emotional note amidst the horror. The sapphic romance woven into the narrative felt natural, offering glimpses of softness in a brutal world. Sometimes I found the pacing uneven, especially in the middle, and the ending leaves more questions than answers (a true cliffhanger :( and no second book) But overall would totally recommend if you want to get into the horror genre lightly.

Lesbian Horror but make it YA

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

This was fun! "Wilder Girls" is a great Fall read, quite gory and filled with sapphic yearning and friendship. I loved the relationships between the characters, especially the platonic ones but I thought the story fell a bit flat. I can't really pinpoint why but I think I just expected a bit more. More high stakes, more explanation and more world building. Anyhow I feel like everyone who loved "Maze Runner" or "The 5th Wave" will devour this and I still highly recommend it to everyone who wants some fast-paced and not too dark horror.
