patti smith is an artist through and through and she had me sobbing by the end of this book. sure, you might be put off by the constant namedropping and some writing inconsistencies, but this book is the perfect reminder that the moments you share with people hold meaning forever, even if your relationship changes and fades. this was the most earnest love story i've ever read. highly recommend immersing yourself fully, googling the names you don't recognize and listening to 60s/70s music while reading

This book truly is worth the hype! I was already fascinated by Patti Smiths life and the 1960s and 70s are one of my favorite times to read about in US culture and art, as everything is so interwoven with each other. 'Just Kids' focusses on Patti and her relationship with Robert Mapplethorpe. Her eloquency and unique world view make this a highly fascinating story. Even if you didin't know her beforehand, if you are looking for a well written memoir: This is the one! I can also highly recommend checking out the audiobook as Patti Smith narrates it herself. Do have a physical or digital copy nearby though as the picture are obviously missing in the narration. ;)
