    Absolutely Beautiful

    After having read this Novella a few years ago, I came back for it this month for a comfort read. I am in love with the world Holly Black created with the Cruel Prince and I love this story for it's changed perspective where we learn more about Cardan and his childhood, his upbringing and very important: his feelings. It is beautifully illustrated and I would highly recommend everyone who loved the Cruel Prince to pick up this short story as well, after finishing the trilogy.

    The long-awaited return to Elfhame! Meet young Prince Cardan, a little boy desperately looking for love; neither cruel nor wicked. A great addition to the "Folk of the Air" series, with lots of beautiful illustrations which make the book feel a lot more special!

    Why?

    ** 2.5 stars ** // This book wasn’t bad per se but it was unnecessary, imo. It didn’t add much to the story in terms of relevant info. Sure, there was more content but it mostly wasn’t anything I as a reader couldn’t gather from reading the first three books in the series - especially when it came to the way Cardan viewed the world and how he felt. Plus, to me, this title was poorly chosen … unless I missed something crucial, it didn’t feel like Cardan learned to hate stories. I’m glad that I’ve read it, however, since I had it in my bookshelf and it was a reminder of how I haven’t finished the series yet (I don’t like not finishing series most of the time), but it was rather anticlimactic.

    For fans

    This is something for someone who didn't have enough of jude and (especially) cardan in the folk of the air series. We get to see some new events set after the end and some before the main series. All of them in Cardans point of view. I absolutely loved it.

    Die Geschichte war verzaubernd…

    Die Geschichte war verzaubernd dunkel und spannend gleichzeitig. Die Charaktere wurden sehr ausführlich von der Autorin ausgedacht und auf Papier gebracht. Konnte das Buch kaum aus den Händen legen.

    Beautiful illustrated past of Cardan Greenbriar.

    In this book, one can finally understand how Cardan became how he is in the Cruel Prince Trilogy. his heart-breaking upbringing, his luck—or lack thereof—in meeting all sorts of creatures from Elfhame, and his relationship with his family as an outcast. A must-read for fans of the initial trilogy.

    Ein wundervolles kleines Extra...

    Ein wundervolles kleines Extra für alle, die nicht genug von der Cruel Prince Reihe und Faerie bekommen können. Das Buch gibt einen kleinen Einblick in Cardans Kindheit und die wunderschönen Illustrationen machen das Ganze zu etwas ganz Besonderem.

    The illustrations in this book...

    The illustrations in this book are beautiful and I also liked the insights we got into Cardan's past. Unfortunately, the individual stories were sometimes told too briefly and sometimesI found it lecked a bit of detail.
