The Husky and His White Cat Shizun: Erha He Ta De Bai Mao Shizun (Novel) Vol. 1

Mo Ran is known as Taxian-Jun, a cruel and ruthless tyrant who went mad and slaughtered his way to the throne. After losing everything he held dear and holding the title of emperor for a time, he decides to take his own life. But then he awakes in the body of his younger self, before everything went down the drain. Now he's determined to save the person he held dear from their death. But soon he's faced with unfamiliar events and revelations he isn't quite prepared for. And in the center of it all are Mo Ran and his teacher Chu Wanning. This book did not prepare me for the rollercoaster that this series is, but it's so good, so really I'm not mad. Meatbun has a way with words and characters. All of them have so many layers and emotions, this story truly traps you in its world after a few pages. This is a pretty heavy story though, one that rarely pulls its punches, but I still found it very enjoyable.

Our MC, Mo Ran, is the tyrant of his nation, killing everyone who ever wronged him without mercy. Only after the last person he truly cared for dies does he end his reign of tyranny.   But somehow after dying, he awakens as his sixteen-year-old self, but still with the muddied mind from his years as the Taxian-jun. Will he use this newly gained chance to change his ways and reconcile with his Shizun, whom he deeply hated (hahahaha) in his past life? Meatbun (author) ate and left no crumbs with this monstrosity of a series. The characters are chef's kiss, the world-building is delicious, and their love story the cherry on top. I don't know if I'll ever be able to move on from them. This series is the perfect queer fantasy novel, with a mix of straight-up unhinged behavior and deeply emotional and heartbreaking stories and characters.   Be aware of triggers that might appear, and buckle up for 12 books in total.

The husky and his white cat shizun is my first danmei not written by MXTX. After reading the trigger warnings, I was a bit skeptical and expected not to like this series, and it should be mentioned that the later volumes contain quite a lot of triggering scenes, especially non-consensual nsfw scenes. Those are definitely not my thing and I would prefer it if they weren't there, but if you're able to look past that, the story itself is worth it. I was pretty much hooked from the first few chapters and grew very attached to the characters. That being said, the main couple's relationship does not compare to the wholesome, gut-wrenching romance that is TGCF and MDZS (in my personal opinion), but it is nonetheless a great story about complicated interpersonal relationships, redemption and messy feelings. Despite the trigger warnings, I'd still definitely recommend this series to all danmei fans, as it is worth the read.

I cried over a man cradling cabbage which is a first for me. I am absoutely in love and ready to throw this book out a window. 11/10 it could not be better and I fear this may become my new obsession & the only thing I care about.
