A middle grade, cosy korean fantasy

Anna am 21.07.2025

Bewertungsnummer: 2545458

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

This book is marketed, at least where I looked it up, as "adult". Certainly, some scenes may fall into this category, but if the ‘Hunger Games’ books are intended for readers aged 13 and over, ‘The Rainfall Market’ can easily be included. Quite unexpectedly, there were some lovely drawings of the main characters at the beginning of the book. Just like the cover, the story transports the reader into an enchanted world of magical creatures and the possibility of changing one's life. In some ways, it reminded me of "The Midnight Library" by Matt Haig, but You Yeong-Gwang's story is a lot more cheerful and way less repetitive. Although there were some challenging moments in this book, it left me with an overall warm and happy feeling.

A gentle story about what truly matters

Bewertet: Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

Rainfall Market is a beautifully simple and easy-to-read story that stays with you long after finishing it. The book gently explores themes of self-discovery and personal growth, guiding the reader through an emotional yet accessible journey. What stood out most is its heartfelt message about what truly matters in life. It highlights the importance of platonic love—the deep bonds we share with family and friends—and shows how these relationships can shape who we are and help us find our place in the world. The writing style is clear and engaging, making the story flow effortlessly while still carrying emotional depth. It is not a complicated read, but rather a meaningful one that invites reflection without feeling overwhelming. Overall, Rainfall Market is a touching and inspiring book that reminds readers of the value of connection, love, and self-understanding. It is a perfect read for anyone looking for a gentle but thoughtful story about life’s most important relationships.

A short read that heals your soul

Bewertet: Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

Rumor says that the rainfall marked can give you the life you’ve been longing for, leaving your old life behind. Serin is deeply lost, not being able to afford the education her schoolmates are looking forward to and missing her sister, who has been missing for a year. Receiving a ticket for the rainfall market, she hopes for a possibility to escape her hopeless situation. But something seems to be not quite right... A captivating story about what matters in life accompanied by a lost girl longing for happiness, a cat that keeps surprising her, and a whole lot of dokkaebis, which are creatures of Korean mythology. “The rainfall market” leaves you comforted, as it’s mostly a feel-good story, healing your soul. A perfect read for everybody, who is lost in “what-ifs”.
