The Unworthy

What a tormenting , yet brutally beautiful read! Written as a journal, with vague thoughts, crossed-out words and pending sentences, it blends themes of idealogical extremism, gendered hierarchies, structural violence, and post-collapse despair. Pondering the power of love and hate, and how both change a person, and imbued with a haunting eeriness and subtle tension, it lingers in the uncomfortable space between fiction and a dystopian reality that isn't entirely implausible. Maybe it's a given when reading horror novels, but be sure to check the content warnings beforehand! Circe broke me so much, my heart is still bleeding.

This book ripped me into a thousand pieces. It’s such a beautiful yet very emotional and painful story about a woman being stuck in a cult. The writing style is so unique; you are reading the main character's thoughts and feelings in such an interesting way. A lot of the plot was up for interpretation, but I personally think most of it was obvious (in a good way). This book is for everyone who loves reading about queer women, literary fiction, and horror. But I recommend checking content warnings because it is heavy content.

From the author of "Tender is the flesh" comes this dystopian religious cult queer horror. I was completly captivated by the writing. The story structure just kept drawing me in and I could not put this book down. The ending was especially gripping, not because it was unexpected by any means, but because I had just hoped that my suspiciouns weren't true. Because this book was very lyrically written, a lot was left up for interpretation but personally that does not bother me and only added to the mystery of it all.
