The Names

I cannot put into words how much I love this book. It's been a few months, since I read it and I'm ready to reread it already. The prose is absolutely beautiful and the story is heartwrenching and hopeful at the same time. I loved the parallels within the three lives, that joined them together and made it so palpable, that they were being lived by the same person, who's circumstances had been changed so vastly, by one detail. I'm getting the German version for my mum and I hope you'll consider getting this book in any form for yourself or someone you love, because its worth it.

Florence Knapp takes us through three different storylines to show how even the smallest choices can shape a whole life. It all starts with naming the youngest son, and from there, the family's life splits into three completely different paths. The writing is absolutely gorgeous! Each reality has its own vibe and style, which really impressed me. The author grabbed me emotionally with her words and didn't let go. The story itself is raw, heartbreaking, and incredibly moving, but also full of hope. Domestic violence and emotional life-altering setbacks run through the different realities, hitting me on a deep, personal level. "The Names" is an amazing and powerful debut that totally convinces with its intense, emotional, and tragic story.
