Meine letzte Rezension Nobody's Girl von Virginia Roberts Giuffre
This book is very difficult to get through, but that makes it all the more important. It is devastating and frustrating to read over and over again how many victims are being silenced, not taken seriously, or portrayed as money- or fame-hungry. The law continues to protect these monsters; the more money they have, the easier they get off the hook. This book provides uncensored insight into how abuse and the fight for justice leave their mark on a person—mentally, physically, and socially. There is no such thing as a "normal" life afterward. This trauma cannot be put aside or ignored; it surfaces over and over again. Virginia Roberts Giuffre is a true survivor who fought not just for herself, but for all victims of abuse. The Epstein case is not an isolated incident; sex trafficking, sexual assault, and child abuse happen all over the world right now. No victim should have to be scared or blackmailed into not coming forward. It shouldn't be this hard to hold people accountable for the horrible things they have done, regardless of their social status. The justice system must change. The biggest tradgedy is the fact that Virginia is no longer with us. We have failed her and so many others. We must ensure their voices are finally heard.

    The Book of Hope

This book should be required reading. Jane Goodall is one of the most inspiring humans, especially when it comes to the restoration of our ecosystems. This novel gives insight into all the positive developments and the four main reasons why there is still hope. It inspires the reader to take action—because we must. In a world full of racial discrimination, hate crimes, thirst for power and the biodiversity loss, it can be hard to see the good and to dare to hope for a positive outcome. This book can give you just that: hope. So yes, this title is true to its contents.

    The Picture of Dorian Gray

"Nowdays the people know the price of everything, and the value of nothing" This Book simply is a masterpiece. Oscar Wildes writing is exceptional, because of his sharp wit, poetic language and a deep understanding of human nature. This is not just a novel; it is a profound commentary on the human condition and the price of living without moral restraint. It is also a timeless exploration of beauty, vanity and moral corruption. It´s a darkly seductive read, perfect for those who enjoy thought provoking literature that delves into the consequences of living a life devoted to pleasure and aesthetics.

    The Bell Jar

"Wherever I sat—on the deck of a ship or at a street café in Paris or Bangkok—I would be sitting under the same glass bell jar, stewing in my own sour air." This being a semi-autobiographical novel by Sylvia Plath makes it even more painfully realistic. Everyone should read this Book at least once. Plath has a way of describing thoughts and feelings in such an accurate and unique way, making it easy to relate even to certain feelings I thought one could not really put into words. It´s also one of the few books accurately capturing the way a person drowns in their depression. The Book also portraits the search for a feminine independence as the main protagonist couldn´t bear the standards of the 1950s which constricted women, was dominated by men and the aspiration to start a family.

    The Secret History

"I am nothing in my soul if not obsessive" The secret history is a brilliant, haunting exploration of intellectual obsession, morality and the seductive allure of beauty and danger. This Novel asks profound questions about morality, guilt and the allure of the forbidden, all while maintaining a quiet tension that builds throughout the story. The Characters are incredibly well-drawn, each with distinct personalities and complex inner lives that pull the reader into their moral struggles. Tartt's prose is elegant and immersive, filled with rich details that makes the book hard to put down. If you´re drawn to stories that explore the depths of the human psyche with sophistication and subtle menace, this is a novel that will captivate and haunt you in equal measure.

    The Starless Sea

Some stories are written just for you. They suck you in, wrap themselves around you and your mind. Thats what this novel did to me. It sticks to me like honey, and I feel like a bee, needing more and more of it. This book followed me into my dreams and stayed present in my head at all times. I wanted to devour it and at the same time I never wanted to finish it, so I could stay within the story forever. “No story ever truly ends as long it is told.” And this one is going to live forever on in my head.

    The Night Circus

"The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not.“ It’s enchanting, it’s romantic, it’s soul touching! This Book is so well written that the Book itself, feels magical. The setting, the story, the writing style, everything fitted so perfectly. If I had one free wish, it would be to visit the night circus just for one night. I loved the magical atmosphere that was created and I wish I could read this Story again for the first time.

    The Goldfinch

"I´d be perfectly happy if I could sit looking at the same dozen paintings for the rest of my life. I can´t think of a better way to go insane" I don´t even know where to start with the Goldfinch. This Novel takes you on a journey through grief, self-destruction, and the unrelenting pull of art, beauty and love. Donna Tartt is a genius of words crafting characters so nuanced and real that it feels like you´re the one experiencing all their emotions. You come to know all the characters so intimately, getting pulled into this world, that feels as messy and complex as real life. I got so absorbed in it, it was hard to put the book down, yet at the same time I never wanted it to end. This Novel was always on my mind and had such an impact on me and although it´s lengthy, every page is worth it.

    Orbiting Jupiter

”I had his back and he had mine that’s what greater love is” This book left such an impact on me. Sometimes out of nowhere I just think "Argh, orbiting Jupiter". The story of Jack and Joseph is so sad and devastating yet so inspiring and it tells a lot about friendship and finding family. Though the book is so short (just about 200 pages) it´s of high quality and captivates the reader. I also seldom cry reading a book, it’s often just tears forming in my eyes, but this book really did it for me.

    The Shards

This is a pseudo- autobiographical novel that explores themes of sex, drugs, a serial killer, and 80s music. Despite its length of about 750 pages, you can finish it in just two days. The story is packed with action, and as you follow the fictional Brett, you become increasingly paranoid and anxious, ultimately feeling as though you can't trust anyone. You witness his gradual descent into madness. The atmosphere of the book is spot on, and what I loved most were the numerous references to truly amazing songs from that era.

    East of Eden

John Steinbeck once remarked that everything he had ever written was some kind of practice for this novel. It truly is a masterpiece! The different personas he created and their complex relationships with one another are masterfully crafted. This novel is not just a family saga—the writing itself is a pleasure to read. It’s also about life’s purpose and friendship. It is the perfect novel for readers who appreciate literature that merges myth, history, and psychological depth even if you’re new to the classics.
