Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice is a classic for a reason. It’s a masterclass in character writing and storytelling. A romance, sure but also a story about class differences and the burden that can be your family. This book has stayed my favorite straight romance for quite a while now (granted, I don’t read that many) and it will probably stay that way for the rest of my life. Elizabeth will forever be one of the greatest female characters of all time and Mr. Darcy is so clearly me at a party I don’t want to be at. I just love him so dearly.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that english literature girlies list Pride and Prejudice as one of their favourite novels, but how could you not? It is a timeless classic. Austen's signature novel features fleshed out characters, drama, interesting dynamics, beautiful love stories, and all things good. Describing it cannot make it justice, it is a must-read!

Da ich mir vorgenommen habe, die BBC Read - Top 100 Books Liste abzuarbeiten, war jetzt auch meine erste Jane Austen fällig. Ich muss gestehen…es hatte mich nicht wirklich angesprochen je eine Jane Austen zu lesen, selbst nicht nachdem ich in Bath im Jane Austen Haus war. Gott sei Dank gibt es die BBC-Liste, sonst wäre mir nämlich wirklich was entgangen. Ich kann nur sagen…unbedingt lesen.

Exactly 200 years ago, the wonderful Jane Austen died on 18th July in 1817 at the age of 41. Reason enough to read one of her novels. So what about "Pride and Prejudice"?! This is one of my favourite novels. It is a love story of two people who fall in love with the second glance. Jane Austen still inspires her readers – 200 years later. Why is that? I think the outstanding aspects are the fine, ironic narrative, the skillful witty dialogues as well as the sensitivity. A touch of nostalgia! But to this day, Austen's novels did not become less important. If I have inspired you by this, grab yourself a book by Jane and enjoy reading it. An unforgettable enjoyable reading experience! Or in the words of Mr Darcy: "In fact – stimulating.".
