The Midnight Library

Eine Bibliothek zwischen Leben und Tod; nicht nur ein toll klingendes Konzept, sondern einfach ein tolles Buch. Die Story ist in Teilen tragisch und traurig, dabei aber immer einfach schön. Nicht unbedingt ein Buch, das von riesiger Spannung oder Überraschungen lebt, aber toll geschrieben und es fühlt sich einfach richtig an. Auf seltsame Art und Weise ein echtes Wohlfühlbuch und einfach hohe Kunst.

I could write another review about how amazing Matt Haig's storytelling is and how his writing is touching and how I didn’t want to stop reading this book. But for me this book really had an impact I will never forget. I first read The Midnight Library in autumn of 2021. I had just moved away from my home town, away from my family and friends and just started university. I wasn't sure about my major, I was having a hard time finding people to connect with and started questioning every decision I ever made. Over time I fell into a deeper hole of sadness. This book gave me so much hope and confidence during that time. I stopped viewing my decision as potential mistakes and more as an opportunity to see how my life would play out. This book and its beautiful story made me feel like whichever way I decided to go in life, it would be the right one. If you’re struggling this book will not fix it, but it might just give you what you need to change your perspective in a better direction.

I will never regret that I have read this book. Matt Haig writes about a woman named Nora, who lost all hope in life. After a series of bad things happening to her, she decides to end her life. She couldn’t know that between life and death lies the midnight library. Its books are versions of her life, if she had decided different in past situations. Will she change her mind, when she sees other possibilities of her life? This book leaves you thinking and points out that we shouldn’t let regrets control our life. This book left me with tears.

I read this book just because it was everywhere on social media and i wanted to know what the fuss was about. It truly deserved all the attention it got. I was blown away by this fantastic novel. The story touched me in so many ways and made me question my own life and choices. What an extraordinary read!

If you ever wanted to read something meaningful, something about what-ifs - this is it. A hopefull (yes, despite the beginning looking quite dark), utterly beautiful perspective on life and something everyone should´ve read once in a life time.
