In a world where robots got up one day and said, 'Well, we're gone, see you never,' it's pretty uncommon for teamonk Dex to suddenly encounter a robot in the wilderness who confronts them with a fundamental, philosophical question: what do humans need? Dex doesn't even know what they themself need. This book is like that one scene in Avatar the Last Airbender where Uncle iroh sits at the side of the road with Toph, drinking tea and discussing problems. Anyone who likes that vibe is going to love this book. It knits together a bit of coming of age and finding one's place with tea, wild wilderness and cozy sci-fi to form a warm blanket to cuddle up in with a contented sigh while it's raining outside. The story does have little plot, so it's probably not ideal for those who need a thrilling and suspenseful plot, but in my opinion the characters more than make up for this. The LGBTQ+ rep gets a bonus point (the protagonist is non-binary). Anyone wanting more of the robot-monk duo can follow up with the sequel, A Prayer for the Crown-Shy, but this story is more or less finished in the first book. / In einer Welt, in der die Roboter eines Tages aufgestanden sind und gesagt haben, "wir sind dann mal weg, auf Nimmerwiedersehen", ist es doch recht ungewöhnlich für Teemönch Dex, plötzlich einem Roboter in der Wildnis zu begegnen, der them mit einer tiefgründigen philosophischen Frage konfrontiert: was brauchen Menschen? Dabei weiß Dex ja nicht einmal, was they braucht. Dieses Buch ist wie diese eine Szene in der Serie Avatar Herr der Elemente, in der Onkel Iroh mit Toph am Wegrand sitzt, Tee trinkt und Probleme ausdiskutiert. Wer diesen Vibe mag, wird dieses Buch lieben. Es flickt ein bisschen coming of age und Platzfindung in der Welt mit Tee, verwildeter Wildnis, und seichtem Sci-Fi zu einer warmen Decke zusammen, in die man sich mit einem zufriedenen Seufzer kuschelt, während draußen der Regen auf die Fenster prasselt. Die Geschichte hat zwar wenig Plot, ist also vielleicht nichts für diejenigen, die einen spannungsgeladenen und umfassenden Plot brauchen, aber die Figuren kompensieren das meiner Meinung nach so gut, dass man eigentlich gar keinen Plot vermisst. Ein weiterer Pluspunkt für die LGBTQ+ Rep (die Hauptfigur ist non-binary). Den zweiten Teil kann man hinterherschieben, wenn man mehr vom Figuren-Duo möchte, aber diese Geschichte ist mehr oder weniger in sich geschlossen.
