"We only die if we are forgotten, Gabriel de Léon. Burn bright. Burn brief. But burn." - S. 445 Empire of the Damned. Was für ein wilder ritt. Bildgewaltig wie Band eins und noch mehr. Voll von spannend kämpfen Blutvergießen und der Kampf um den heiligen Gral. Dior Gabriel stecken in der Klemme. Dabei kommt Gabriels Vergangenheit zu Tage. All die Tragik all der Schmerz und all die Familientragödien. Verdammt was war das spannend, voll von Emotionen, strategischen Überlegungen und Eingeständnissen. Dabei muss Gabriel sich doch weitaus mehr öffnen als er will und seine Schwester ist ein verdammt anderes Kaliber. Einfach fesselnd. Band zwei endet genauso spannend und böse wie Band eins. Ich liebe es und warte nun sehr gespannt auf Band drei.

I love Vampire Stories which try to take a different direction than the usual simplistic ones. It is a very interesting way of telling a Story as well. The Characters are well done, the pacing is good. It kept me reading well into the night. Very well written World with great detail and atmosphere. I am disappointed that I have to wait for the Story to continue. But I will have Patience.

My new favorite book by Jay Kristoff - a bit like Castlevania mixed with Bloodborne. It's the perfect mix of light and dark, thrilling and somber. If you enjoyed Nevernight, you’ll absolutely love Empire of the Vampire. (Liking Vampires is no prerequsite - although it probably helps.) I was overjoyed to learn this was the first in a series. I’m already aching for the sequel. This was such a good, satisfying and well-paced read from start to finish. I felt so engaged and at home within the story, it was hard to get my mind off it... even when I wasn't actively reading it. Jay Kristoffs writing never ceases to amaze me. The Illustrations in this book are gorgeous, too. So if you like dark fantasy stories, vampires or are bored with most fantasy settings, give this book a try. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.
