Love at Second Sight

This is basically a little magical YA murder mystery, only that the supposed murder hasn’t happened yet, and our protagonists must try to stop it. It felt a little different from Lukens’ other books, and I’m not quite sure why yet. But not in a bad way! I believe there was a little more focus on the plot than the relationships themselves compared to their other stories. But as always, the characters were great, and I really did not want to stop reading. I can very much recommend this one!

Cam is a very ordinary person, no powers just human. Until he has a vision...on his first day in school...in front of EVERYBODY which souldn't have been happening in the first place, again: no powers technically. Now he can see glimpses of the future and suddenly every supernatural faction wants him on their side. Logical consequence: befriend him! Cam is understandably overwhelmed with everything. This book is my favorite of all of Lukens' so far. The almost-murder mystery and friendship between Cam and the other five is clearly the main theme of the book. It depicutres a great journey of accepting ones true self together with teen angst and social awkwardness this book is so darn endearing.

Lukens novels with all my heart. The characters and dynamics are so unique and cute and utterly mesmerizing. The only reasons this is not a five star read for me IS that it feels like that 80% of the plot is happening in the last 20% of the book, but I LOVED everything else. I can't wait for the next novel they write, so I can DEVOUR it.

Love at second sight won’t be my favorite F.T. Lukens' book, but it was still cute and entertaining. What stood out to me the most was the world-building. There was so much detail to it, I just couldn’t get enough. I need a whole series that takes place in that universe NOW. The book is on the lower end of YA, with most characters being 15, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but it was something that bothered me personally. My biggest problem, however, was the pacing. Most of the plot happens in the latter half of the book, which makes the twist and ending feel unnecessarily rushed. Also, for a book that is being marketed as a love story, the romance barely existed. It was cute, sure. But the plot focused way more on Cam’s newfound abilities and platonic relationships with other people than his romantic feelings for Mateo. Which was quite refreshing. I just expected something else. However, overall, the book was cute, heartwarming, and funny. I do wish it would've been marketed differently so I could have adjusted my expectations accordingly.
