The Eyes of Gaza A Diary of Resilience

Die junge palästinensische Journalistin Plestia schreibt während des Krieges ihre Erlebnisse und Gefühle in ihrem Tagebuch auf und dokumentiert gleichzeitig über Social Media die Geschehnisse. Diese sind echt und ungeschönt in diesem Buch wiedergegeben. Sie spricht über die Ungewissheit, ob man am nächsten Tag aufwachen wird, den Tod ihrer Freunde und die ständige Angst vor feindlichen Angriffen. Aber auch über Hoffnungsschimmer, die Resilienz der Menschen in Gaza und Zusammenhalt in der zivilen Bevölkerung. Sie beschreibt die Menschlichkeit, die sie während ihrer Zeit dort erlebt und auch wie das Leben vorher in Gaza für sie war. Ein wichtiges Buch und ein Augenöffner. Es zeigt eine andere Seite des Konflikts, die man sonst nur selten dargestellt bekommt.

Although I can never fully comprehend the pain and hardships that Palestia and her people face, the only appropriate reaction is deep compassion. You can really see the hopelessness and devastation of the situation, but also the love, cohesion, and resilience of the Palestinian people. Seeing that this book only encompasses the first 45 days of the attacks and how absolutely devastating and brutal they already were makes it hard to fathom how all of this was allowed to continue for almost two years now.

Living in a war zone, seeing your loved ones either die or disappear, not knowing, wether you will survive the next day yourself. Alaqads words are full of pain and tragedy - yet they remain somewhat hopefull and loving. Her point of view might just be one of many in this endless conflict - but it's an important one nonetheless.
