Cameron Sullivan's debut novel is the perfect mix between dark historical romance and gritty fantasy with a dash of dry humor. His writing style is compelling and complex, with a story that is immediately engaging and characters that are well-rounded and nuanced. For people who love intricate fantasy novels, who prefer gritty stories with elaborate plotlines, this is perfect for you. For me, even if I didn't know it, I've been hoping and waiting for a book just like this, ever since Sapkowski's Witcher series.

I loved everything about this book, the characters, the writing style, the story. Everything worked perfectly together. Flawed characters that make you laugh on one page and maybe very angry on the next one. I still cannot tell you how I feel about some of them in the end, and I actually really love that. If you want actual morally grey characters, you will find them here! I cannot wait to read more from Cameron Sullivan (and hopefully more about Sebastian)

Cameron Sullivan's refreshing writing style was just what I needed to get me through this book. Readers follow the story of Sebastian Grave, a man who has more than one skeleton in his closet. Hoping to repair his broken relationship with his former lover, he sets off for the place he had to flee from 20 years ago. But let's be honest, dismissing Sullivan's book as a ‘werewolf story’ doesn't do it justice at all. It is a dark fantasy with plenty of blood, cruelty and attention to detail. Above all, the relationships between the characters (Sebastian, Antoine and Salmodel in particular) were both heartbreaking and heartwarming, and the fact that all of this is infused with a wonderful amount of charm and wit confirms Sullivan's talent and love for his craft. Truly a top tier debut.
